Our office supports the request to lift the liquor moratorium at 7007 N. Clark for the Wild Onion Market based on the robust community feedback we received.
The proposal comes after Wild Onion Market announced that they signed a lease at this location after eight years of community organizing. This location previously housed a grocery store, has parking, and is centrally located, making it an ideal location for the cooperative.
Wild Onion Market will submit a plan of operations when applying for its liquor license which will limit alcohol to no more than 10% of overall sales. Liquor will make up no more than 6% of the overall shelving in the store. The market itself will sell a variety of local and farm fresh items, including local brews and wines.
I want to thank the Wild Onion Market for their tireless efforts and community-driven process to develop a proposal that reflects the community's values. The addition of this storefront will bring additional variety and options to the Clark business corridor and help with economic development in the area.

After eight long years of community organizing, Wild Onion Market announced last month that they signed a ten-year lease on a site at 7007 N. Clark in Chicago. The co-operative is preparing to build out and open its full-service, community-owned grocery store at Lunt and Clark.
As they prepare to open, they are seeking a packaged goods liquor license. However, there is an existing liquor moratorium that stretches on Clark from Touhy to Lunt. In order to be able to apply for a liquor license, the liquor moratorium will need to be lifted. Should the moratorium be lifted and they apply for a license, they will submit a plan of operations stipulating that no more than 10% of their total sales will be allocated to alcholol.
