Ward Alerts

This CLC subcommittee, led by Co-Chairs Jordan Brown and Greg Wangerin, exists to ensure rapid, accurate, and community-centered communication during urgent or potentially dangerous events within the 49th Ward. By managing real-time alerts directly from the Alderperson’s office, the subcommittee plays a critical role in public safety, civic awareness, and neighborhood resilience.

Their mission is to protect and empower the residents of the 49th Ward through timely and trusted SMS alerts that inform, mobilize, and minimize harm during emergencies. Whether responding to flooding, street closures, ICE activity, or other immediate hazards, our mission is to make sure every neighbor knows what’s happening—and what to do next.

Responsibilities

Guiding Principles

  1. Clarity Over Clutter — Clear, direct, no extra noise.

  2. People First — Alerts are for residents, not institutions.

  3. Trust Is Built — Accuracy, tone, and restraint are essential

  4. Justice-Informed — Special care is taken in messaging related to policing, immigration, and civil rights.
